On the Road Again – I’m Moving to Texas

Willie Nelson’s ‘On the Road Again’ used to be my family’s theme song.  We moved so often that by the time I hit the 8th grade, I’d attended six schools.  It’s been a good long while since the tune has been appropriate, but this month that changes.

After much consideration over the last year, and in earnest the last couple months, I’ve decided to leave Orange County.  It’s been no small decision and one that I’ve considered carefully.

The last few years, I’ve seen some changes in my personal life and now, as a single mother of 3 kids, I’m looking for the best place to provide for them while still allowing me the time that I need to do my most important job… be their mom.  I’ve considered several places, but there has been so much about Texas that was appealing to me.  I evaluated cost of living, communities, housing, schools, and taxes over the last year and ultimately decided to make The Woodlands home.  I think the endless trees also might have appealed to the Oregonian in me.

The word that seems to come up every time I talk to anyone about Texas is ‘opportunity‘.  I hear it over and over again.  It’s been a word that has been on the endangered species list in California for some time.

In the days ahead I will launch a new site in which to share the journey of my move.  A REALTORĀ® on the move will be fun stuff.  Lessons learned so far:  1) My father’s sage advice “budget twice as much as you think necessary to move” might have some validity, 2)  One will need more boxes than one might think, and 3) Block out an entire day to turn on and off utilities because those aren’t 15 minute phone calls.  When the electric company says to call back later because they have high call volume, just know that’s a standard message.  I’ve yet to hear the message altered no matter what time of day I call.

I leave mid-August.  Lorie, my business partner will maintain our business and continue to serve the wonderful clients and friends that I’ve had the good fortune to work with over the last nearly twelve years.  It’s been my pleasure.

Happy Trails.

Congrats on a bold move for the best reason you could ever choose! Those kiddos are lucky to have a strong mom & leader in you.
I know you will do great in Texas!!

  2. Jerry Reed says:

I have enjoyed each time that we have met. You are a special person and I felt it from the day I spent in your office for a day long Social Media occasion.

I wish you and your family the most luck in Texas. It is a good place and you are going to do well there. You will be missed here but my wish is that “You Go Forth And Prosper”.

Big big news Linsey. Congrats on making the final decision. I know the OC (and it’s occasional visitors like me) will miss you.

    Safe moving!!

  4. Drew Meyers says:

Dang a grammar mistake in my last comment. “its”, not “it’s”. I think :)

  5. Hi Linsey! Drew Meyers just let me know (on Twitter) that you’re headed to The Woodlands and sent me this link! When you get into town, let me know and I’d love to meet up and take you out for a “Welcome to The Woodlands” coffee date! Happy moving :)

Leaving is never easy, that’s for sure. You’ve done your research and you’ve picked a place that’s HOT in more ways than one. Welcome to The Woodlands, you and your boys will thrive.

  7. You will be sorely missed. However, it’ll give me a reason to visit Houston!
